Hale plated two runs in the third on a hard-smash groundout by Joey Nowak and a single by third-baseman Jamie Conway. Then in the fourth, three more runs came across, the first on an Alex Reed single. The Huskies finally took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. After the Highlanders scored three in the top of the seventh, Reed provided some early season excitement. He drilled a ball over the wall in leftfield with two outs to tie the score at 7. Muskego 14, Hale 13 (Non-conference) – Following a nice opening weekend, the Huskies dropped a non-conference tilt vs. an extremely good Muskego team. The combined efforts on the mound of Alex Elenteny, Eric Palesse and Jamie Conway held the might Warrior’s offense to just 5 hits, but a number of walks and fielding errors led 6 unearned runs. Dillion Engle led the offense by going 2-2 with 2 doubles.

We added crooked numbers in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th while putting up huge hits numbers. Dillion Engle lead the way by going 3-5, but Zach Wall, Alex Reed, Eric Schrader, Josh Riche and Casey Riley each added two hits apiece. On the mound, Alex Reed gutted out a 110-pitch five-plus inning performance on a day where he didn’t have his best stuff. Eric Schrader relieved him in the sixth. After giving up a home run, the Lancers loaded the bases, but Reed saved the game with an incredible diving over-the-shoulder catch in short right-center to keep the Huskies on top.

Starting pitcher Eric Schrader scattered 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings giving way to Dillion Engle who earned his first save of the season. Engle threw just 8 pitches in inducing a game ending 5-4-3 double play. Jamie Conway’s great pick up and relay to Alex Reed and eventually to Schrader was just one of many great defensive plays. On offense, lead-off hitter Zach Wall did a little bit of everything. He opened the game with a rocket down the right field line for a double and scored the first run of the game. Wall scored 4 times all toll, and collected 3 hits. The turning point of the game was when Zach Wall beat out a bunt with two out in the sixth. Hale 1, Hamilton 0 – Sean Beuth was the story of the game. The senior right-hander gave up just four hits and struck out 5 in a pitcher’s duel with Hamilton’s Taylor Hillmann. The Huskies defense helped bail out Beuth in the 4th. Following a lead-off single, right-fielder Jason King snagged a line drive and doubled the runner off of first. Two more singles in the inning put runners at the corners. The runner broke from first and second baseman Alex Reed intercepted the throw to second and rifled it back to Casey Riley who tagged the runner coming to the plate.
